Ride of Silence

The Ride of Silence  ( ) is held once a year, in hundreds of places around the world, to commemorate bicyclists killed or injured in traffic accidents.  The DC ride is a slow, silent procession through the monumental center of DC.  Let's have a Potomac Pedalers contingent join other local cyclists. Other nearby rides are happening in Olney and Rockville.

Nice gathering of about 30 cyclists riding and wearing black banners in honor of those who passed. It was a wonderful night with a wonderful procession.

I was disappointed at the turnout, but impressed by the police escort on a weekday at the end of rush hour. Lots of tourists out, hope they got the message.

The ride was for a great cause. The only down side was the lack of turn out. I think with a little help next year we can turn this around.

Having a motorcycle escort to control the cross streets made this go very smoothly! I just wish more riders had come out.
