Nerikomi/Colored Clays Workshop

Colored Clay and Porcelain Workshop!

What is it:

Nerikomi is a Japanese term that refers to pottery made from colored clay. It typically involves using porcelain clay's infused with ceramic stains.

Hi all Sorry for the last minute notice, but they moved the workshop to friday because of mother's day this weekend.  The workshop will now be a one day class from 10am-4pm.

What are we going to do:

During this workshop you will learn how to make your own colored clay's and how to use them to make colored logs like what you can make using polymer clay. The color logs can contain complex flower designs or simple geometric designs. You will cut out the laminate from the log and then press them into molds to make bowls and different shaped items. This is a whole new way of looking at clay!
Nerikomi workshop @ MIY Ceramics – May 10th & 11th. Each day the class will run from 10am-2pm or later.

Includes materials  and firing for both days at the workshop! Each day will last about 4 hours. Cost is typically $75 but for meetup the cost is $65.

Join us for two days of exploration and problem-solving, as we tackle this most technically challenging form of pottery-making.

:::Day 1:::

• informal lecture
• practice the basics of nerikomi construction and pattern-making using red & white clays
• create base forms & laminates using porcelain and colored porcelain (prepared in advance)

:::Day 2:::

apply laminates
finish forms

    Yes I am coming. I'm in wheel chair but mobile. Will that be a problem?

      Hi Lilia, I don't think the wheel chair is a problem, most of the doorways are wide, I think there is just one that is a little narrow but negotiable :). Also, I'll ask Erik to see if he can save the parking space on the street near the curb for you to make it easier to access on your wheel chair. :).
