We started with some limited attendee hikes/walks on May 19/20. This is the date that BC moved into Phase 2 of opening up. We will continue with outdoor activities now that we are in Phase 3. Few faces, large spaces. All activities need to take place with physical distancing being observed.
It is great to be able to do outside activities again. Isolation has been difficult for most of us.
Our meetup group for Powerful Women has been created to provide an opportunity for women to connect through life's ups and downs, and provides a forum for women to feel connected to one another. Key values include respect, caring, empathy, compassion, fun, adventure, and creativity. Integrity is of the utmost importance. We join together to explore various fun social outings and outdoor activities that encourage women to feel powerful, compassionate, and stimulated on physical, intellectual and emotional levels. Whether it be a nice walk on a beach or a lovely dinner out, our activities create an avenue to connect and feel a sense of belonging.
Our membership consists of women over 40 who want to connect with other women. They include ladies who are: married, single, new to Nanaimo/surrounding area or have lived here most of their lives. Members are not required to attend all activities just the ones that appeal to them. Many of our activities take place in Nanaimo. We also do weekends away and hikes north and south of the city. We average 4 to 5 activities per week. We hosted over 400 activities in 2016! We welcome activity suggestions and the offer to host activities from our members.
Our regular activities include: - 60 to 90 minute hikes (3 or more per week) - book clubs - dinners and pot lucks - brunches - coffee chats - Games Nights/Craft Nights (Sept - May) - Movies and Theatre - Annual Birthday and Christmas Party - 2 Charity walks - Coldest Night of the Year (Feb) and Hike for Hospice (June) - more....!!
Membership dues are $10/year and are collected starting in December for the next calendar year. The membership dues pay for meetup.com fees. Any remaining money is used for member services such as venue rentals. New members are welcome to attend one or two meetups before committing to paying membership dues. Most activities do allow members to bring a guest. Guests should be women who are 40+.
