  • A ten-week introductory course into a system of practical philosophy. We look at ancient wisdom, drawing on many sources but mainly Plato in the west and the Vedas in the east, to see what it can offer us for life in the modern world. Each evening is themed. There are readings, discussion and exercises in stillness and awareness. Then students are invited to put what has been understood into practice during the week and come back with some observations of what worked. The aim is to learn to live in the present and be able to deal with what life throws at us in a calm, dispassionate way.

"There are two things that one ought to cut back: fear of future troubles and memory of those that are past. One concerns me no longer, the other not yet."
