Steganalysis and the art of detecting invisible messages - Tomáš Pevný
Steganography is the ancient art of communicating secret message in innocuously looking objects. In modern days, these objects are digital, such as images, audio files, txt, tweets, etc. Steganography can be potentially more disturbing, since its primary goal is to stay invisible and it can therefore stay undetected for a very long time. As the counterpart to cryptography is cryptoanalysis, the steganalysis is counterpart to steganography. As in many fields, it is being dominated by the machine learning methods, yet their application is not always entirely straightforward due to different application constraints and the important property of signal being weak.
The lecture will first introduce the steganography and steganalysis, quickly discuss state of the approaches, and then discuss the adaptation of machine learning methods for the security scenario.
Speaker: Tomáš Pevný
Tomas Pevny holds the position of researcher at Czech Technical University of Prague. He received his PhD in Computer Sciences from State University of New York in Binghamton in Computer Science at 2008 and MS in Computer Sciences from Czech Technical University
in Prague in 2003. In 2008--2009, T. Pevny spent one year in Gipsa-lab in Grenoble, France, as a post-doctoral researcher. His main research interests are in non-parametric statistics with focus on steganography, steganalysis, network security, and intrusion detection.
• 18:00 The talk
• 20:00 - ... Networking
Machine Learning Meetups (MLMU) is an independent platform for people interested in Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, Data Journalism, Artificial Intelligence, Agent Systems and all the related topics. MLMU is a regular community meeting usually consisting of a talk, a discussion and a subsequent networking allowing people to network, inspire each other and learn about exciting stuff. At the end of the year 2016, MLMU spread also to Brno and Bratislava. The beginning of 4th season brought MLMU Košice!
