    Due to high and fast running water, this class has been canceled. We will reschedule and announce a new date soon. This class will teach basic moving water skills that every river canoeist should have. Students will also receive instruction on reading the river and recognizing hazards. Students will build on the skills learned in the Introduction to Paddling class, and will learn such maneuvers as upstream ferries, downstream ferries, eddy turns and peel outs. This class is open to both tandem & solo canoes. This is a Prairie State Canoeists event and as such, registration for this class is only through the PSC website. This class is limited to 15 participants.   • Kishwaukee River - Baumann Park to Atwood Park

    This is a Prairie State Canoeists event. We encourage other beginner and experienced PSC members to join us as we would like to fill Lead and Sweep positions. This stretch of the river 8.5 miles long and is rated as beginner level at normal water levels. You will need your own boat, paddle and PFD. Bring a waterproof dump bag with a set of dry clothes (just in case). Car shuttle promptly at 10:00. Finish time is estimated at 3:00 but may be sooner or later based on time to car shift, river and wind conditions and other factors. Bring a snack/lunch and water as we will take a short break about halfway through the trip. Wear quick dry/fleece clothing. A PFD (lifejacket) must we worn on the trip. No alcohol is allowed on PSC trips.

    !!! PUT-IN CHANGE !!! I have moved the put-in for this event to Knock Knolls Park at 336 Knoch Knolls Rd, Naperville, IL 60565. This is to accommodate more cars and boaters, and give ease to congestion. Also, because of the larger number of people in this group, please arrive by 9:00am to begin unloading your gear. !!! PUT-IN CHANGE !!! This is a Prairie State Canoeists event. We encourage other beginner and experienced PSC members to join us as we would like to fill Lead and Sweep positions. This stretch of the river is rated beginner under normal water conditions. The the trip will is about 7-8 miles long. Finish time is estimated at 2:00PM.     More details to follow but wanted you to hold the day for the Kishwaukee Paddlefest. Best to arrive around 8:30 am at Lithuanian Park to catch the first paddler/boat shuttle up to put-in at Baumann Park in Cherry Valley. Then, you paddle down to the take-out where you car is parked. Beginning around 1:00, there will be music (2-3 bands), cold drinks and food. You will need your own boat, paddle and PFD although rentals may be available through Rocktown Adventures in Rockford; give them a call at[masked]. If you want. Students will also receive instruction on reading the river and recognizing hazards. PREREQUISITE: For your safety and to keep the class on pace, students must have completed the PSC Introduction to Paddling and Moving Water 1 classes.
