3nd Annual Northwest Homesteading Fair

UPDATE: We will meet as a group at NOON at the school. There is a covered patio area facing the greenspace/field where the fair is held. It has some picnic benches, so we will all meet there. Maybe have a quick lunch? Share ideas? Share which workshops you are attending? Maybe even a raffle for those who actually do show up!

from: http://nwhomesteadingfair.wordpress.com/

Are you a homesteader? Interested in learning more about homesteading? Just looking for old-fashioned family fun? This is the place!

Join us in Lyle, Washington on Saturday, September 20th, 2014 for a full day of workshops and fun family activities!

We have gone to this for the past two years and LOVED it! We love this tiny town & get to meet a bunch of great people who live & work off-grid what they teach! Free admission and FREE workshops all day! Check out the list (some require an RSVP) on the website. I see there's even a HAM radio workshop this year. Make sure to buy raffle tickets! There's always a lot of great prizes and it's how they support the costs of putting this on each year. :)

Lyle Activity Center and Greenspace is located in Lyle, WA, along SR-14 / State Street, between 3rd & 4th. Google Maps – Washington 14 & 3rd St, Lyle, WA 98635. (From Portland, take I-84 east to the Hood River Bridge. Cross into Washington and turn east on SR-14 to Lyle. From The Dalles, cross The Dalles Bridge and turn west on SR-14 to Lyle.) Parking is on the street. There is limited food there at the fair (last year there was only two food vendors, but they were quite delicious!), so bring a packed lunch.

Yippee! We have the workshop listing!

BTW - I LOVED seeing how many of us turned out for this. The people who run it were also tickled that we are coming to this each year too! I believe Amanda and Fern (who run this fair) have all but volunteered & signed Matt and me to do a booth next year. :) They have been pushing us to do our DIY tie-dye booth for a couple years, along with my jewelry and crafts. And I might be teaching a workshop on herbcrafts/ticturing/etc. The group got their 501(c) this year, so this is GREAT news for that group out there for the coming years of fairs!

How about a HUGE shout-out to Lise for the outstanding communication on this event! This is what it means to be involved. BTW, who got the prizes?

I feel a bit guilty about it, but I got the range bag. Allison got the Lifestraw. :) I threw in two of the mini fire starters I had brought along - Oscar1 got one & Tina got the other one, I believe.

Hi everyone, I'll be going from the fair to the meetup meeting in Beaverton too; I'm coming from Eugene, so I won't get to Lyle until around 11, so not an ideal carpool partner for the morning, but I'm happy to offer a ride back into town if needed. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Looking forward to seeing you again so soon! :) Don't forget to swing by the patio area we'll be gathering up for our quickie "meet n' greet" at noon! You'll be there just in time!

FYI - anyone who wants to carpool to the Homesteading Fair with us in Lyle, we will be coming straight from there to the monthly meeting in Beaverton. Drive time is an hour and half, so we *should* make it in time! We have two seats open in our Subaru Forester (read: limited leg space in back seats). We will be leaving Vancouver area early (approx 7am) to get to the fair at opening, and will spend the whole day there. Please email me if you would like to catch a ride in our car

We now have confirmed raffle items! A range bag and a lifestraw are up to grabs for our noon raffle. To qualify, you do need to be a dues-paying member, so that's even more incentive to do so! Help support the group via dues and this is one of those "perks" you get in on because of it. :)

    Wow, great advance information!

    September 15, 2014

  • Lise

Let's hear it for carpooling! Please respond here if you can provide a seat or want to carpool with someone! We have two seats available in our car (be forewarned our back seats have limited leg space, so short-legged people will be more comfortable - but anyone is welcome!). Mary? Sharon? either of you interested in our seats? We plan to get there when the fair opens and leave as late as possible, then shoot directly to the monthly meeting in Beaverton! So riders with us will be in for a looong day with us! :) We are located in Vancouver. Willing to pick up or meet up close, maybe Jantzen Beach, if you are in Portland.

I can never find the list of events. Anyone find a list of classes?

    September 13, 2014

    • Lise

Nope, me neither. Which is weird cause they usually have it up waaaay before now. I sent them an email and posting about it, cause I know *I* certainly want to plan ahead which classes/workshops to attend! :)

The map here takes one to Hood River, Oregon. I think it's a zip code problem. Could some organizer person revisit and fix the address, please?

    August 8, 2014

    • Lise

Sorry, I'm not able to edit this info for activities anymore, after I posted it a while back. :(

      August 9, 2014

    • Lise

      All should be corrected now!

      September 13, 2014

  • Brett

    I'll look into it today.

    Let's think about car pooling...
