Spectacular times in the Supes 17 mile overnight backpack

  • to
  • Needs a location

  • The weather should be perfect for one of the most beautiful locations in the state.

This is a two night trip. Friday night will be a car camp at the Lost Dutchman's State Park campground.   Lost Dutchman requires a $15 per car fee so it is definitely a good idea to carpool. Saturday morning finds us leaving the campground and driving 3 miles to the First Water trailhead for the backpacking portion of the trip. The second night will be spent on the trail.

Here is a view from our campsite last trip:

The route is an approximate 17-mile loop. The terrain is mostly moderate with a few steep climbs. There is a planned destination but, being a wilderness area, there are no formal campgrounds. We can camp almost anywhere. The plan is to set up camp then relax or explore as one wishes. We will be camping near Charlebois Spring which is a reliable year round spring. Bring a filtration device.

    Here are the hike details:

The campground is first come first served, so if we have anyone able to head down earlier in the day that would be great too.

I'm expecting to get down there early on Friday. I'll get a space at the campground.

We'll miss Sara, but I'll try to coordinate things moving forward. Our hike is a little more than a week away and I would like to have some idea when everyone is getting their and weather car pooling arrangements need to be arranged. I will not be arriving until Saturday. I will be leaving Chino Valley Saturday around 06:00AM and would like to be on the trail by 09:00AM. I haven't hiked the Superstitions in 20 years and am definitely looking forward to hiking them again with all of you.

I'm out. Believe it or not, I'm still dealing with after effects from my sprained ankle. Done some hiking without a pack & it doesn't hold up well. With a loaded pack, I doubt I'd be able to do it.

Sadly, I have to drop this trip, as Eric is working that weekend, so I'm out someone to watch the wee one. We can meet before the trip and I have maps and whatnot :)

The Supes will have to wait as I will be hosting Christmas in Mass. one last time and have lots to do there before then.
