Safe Humanist Outlet and Activism Session

  • December 1 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Please join us for another supportive gathering for folks facing painful mixed emotions, confusion and isolation.  Many of us are looking for a place to debrief, as well as to gather ideas of what to do now. Please join us this week to support each other and talk about what we can do.

This week we will also be hosting Serah and Evan from Spectrum Experience, a strategic communications firm which supports and promotes progressive humanist candidates and initiatives.  Serah and Evan have a lot to share about how folks can get involved.

The two goals of this gathering are (1) to support each other and be in an authentic environment to process and talk through our responses to current affairs, and (2) to develop a plan for activism, fundraising and participation in Humanist and progressive political projects.

Please come with your ideas and energy so we can move forward and find more outlets and ways we can make a difference.  We will set future dates to follow up and regroup/revisit our ideas for making change.

This is a joint gathering with Prescott Progressives and Prescott Freethinkers.  There are a lot of overlapping views and values in these two groups, but it is also understood that not everyone is interested in being a member of both groups. We hope there is enough common interest in collaboration and support that members of both groups will have a safe place to talk.

Step One Coffee House will NOT be open, but you are welcome to bring your own dinner and/or drinks.  Cori will provide coffee and water.

Chuck Lorre, the creator of "The Big Bang Theory" posts these narratives called vanity cards after each episode. I thought tonight's was appropriate to tonight's discussion:

I don't know about you, but I've been spending most of my free time in the land of Not Yet. If you're unfamiliar with it, Not Yet is a happy place where all the bad things that seem likely to occur have not happened... yet. I like to think of it as a shimmering, shivering soap bubble whose fragile beauty is only made greater by the knowledge that it will soon burst, making way for the dark realm of You Gotta Be Kidding Me.

    But not now.

    Not Yet.

And yes, I would love to say Not Ever, but that place doesn't exist.

I'm not sure we will be able to make it but I wanted to share this document that was posted to a private FB page to which I belong (Team Democrat 2016).
