Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup

Adopt a Highway

Let's go clean our adopt-a-highway mile, then then go to Gabby's Kitchen in PV for breakfast/lunch.

The Adopt a Highway Program provides a way for individuals, organizations, or businesses to help maintain sections of the roadside within the Arizona State Highway System.

Our group has taken on the responsibility of helping our community by participating in the Adopt-a-Highway program. We have been assigned a mile on Hwy 69 in Dewey.

At one end of the mile is the Quailwood golf course, at The Villages Community, and the other end of the mile is near Leff-T's Steakhouse and Guido's Pizza (near the Family Dollar store).

The mile is from milepost 282 to 283.

Feel free to call me if you need help finding the location. [masked]-O789 -Kevin

We will be cleaning ONLY ONE SIDE of the highway this time. That will make it easier and take less time.
We will clean for about 60~90 minutes. We should be able to clean one side of the mile.

Let's meet at the Villages/Quailwood golf course (milepost 283), where we will begin cleaning the highway. Members may drive into "The Villages" and find parking on the road there that runs parallel to the highway. The road is north of the highway. Drive into "The Villages" (there is a sign there for the quailwood golf course) or drive into Quailwood community. A road parallels the highway between these two turn-offs.

No sandals or "flip-flops" (safety FIRST!)

Will we start at milepost 283 and work our way East to milepost 282.

ADOT provides safety training, trash bags, and two signs to be used at each end of their adopted section. I will pass along the safety information that I received. The main thing is to not walk out on the highway and get hit by a car.

We need to wear the safety vests. I will bring these. These have been provided by A.D.O.T.
We have sticks with nails on the end to pick up the trash. They were very helpful last time.

Children and pets are NOT allowed at this event for safety reasons.

For our efforts, the group's name has been put on a sign at each end of the mile.

I hope we get lots of members to come out for this good cause.

Mark this on your calendar and let's all meet up to participate in the Adopt-a-Highway program.

btw, we should ask guidos to be the official sponsor of the group. since we clean their highway, they should give us a discount?

We'll keep an eye on it, but it does not look good. May have to postpone this one. I will update the event Friday.
