Fusing the practice of mindfulness with the play of Improv Comedy. Each week we practice presence, grounding ourselves in the here and now, before we embark on a hilarious, playful adventure of improvisational games, movement and acted-out stories, practicing presence through play. Together we cultivate connection and joy that we learn to take out into the world with us in our day-to-day lives. No experience in either mindfulness practice or improv is required to join!

We meet both in New Paltz, NY and NYC.

About the main facilitator, Shea Riester: Shea has been a Buddhist meditation practitioner for 10 years, is a trained Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher from U. Mass Medical School, and has been facilitating mindfulness and improv groups for 2 years. He trained in improv comedy with the ridiculously awesome masters of improv at Improv Boston in Cambridge, MA.

NYC Mindful Improv Practice Group

Still Mind Zendo

What if we saw life more as a playground and less as a prison? This is a weekly drop-in practice group that fuses the practice of presence with the play of improvisational comedy. Each week we practice mindfulness meditation, getting into our bodies and grounding in the here and now, before embarking on a wild ride of improvisational games, movement and acted-out stories, weaved together with the art of being present. Together we cultivate connection, presence and playfulness that we'll learn to take with us into our day-to-day lives. And if we're feeling it in a month or two, we'll host an improv comedy show for friends and family (but no one will be forced to perform!) No experience in either mindfulness practice or improv is required to show up. All levels welcome :) This has been changed to a weekly drop-in group! No RSVP necessary. Mindfulness + Improv 7-Week Course (New Paltz)

This is a 7-week course that fuses the practice of mindfulness meditation with the play of Improv Comedy. Each week we will practice presence, training in mindfulness meditation and grounding ourselves in the here and now, before we embark on a hilarious, playful adventure of improvisational games and acted-out stories. Together we will cultivate connection and joy that we'll learn to take out into the world with us in our day-to-day lives. If we feel good towards the end of the course, we can hold a small improv comedy show for friends and family, but no one is forced to participate. No experience in either mindfulness practice or improv is required to take this course. All levels welcome. This course runs for 7 classes, from 7:00 - 9:15 PM on Wednesday nights, from May 1st to June 12th. Note: RSVPing for this meetup is signing up for the whole course, not just the first night! The cost of this course is $200. Please pay by cash or check on the opening night of the course.
