Design is shifting definitions. Designers are makers, thinkers, entrepreneurs, authors, illustrators, coders, and much more. In their book, Kern and Burn: Conversations With Design Entrepreneurs (http://www.kernandburn.com/) Tim Hoover and Jessica Karle Heltzel interviewed 30 leading designers who discuss how design has led them in new directions, why pursuing related paths is good for business, and how to redefine yourself and your work.
They will present anecdotes from those interviews as well as their experience as "designers: as self-publishers" and what they've learned through their experience designing, writing, and publishing a book.
Tim and Jessica are the co-founders of Kern and Burn, a resource for design entrepreneurs and The People's Pennant. They run Kern and Burn full-time on the side and currently work as designers for Done Not Done and General Assembly respectively. They received their MFA's in Graphic Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).
