  • Innovation Delivered - Jeff Ivany: Pillar Technology's VP of Digital Experience

Our next ProductTank will be hosted and sponsored by Granular at the DuPont Pioneer headquarters in Johnston. Thanks to Matt Crawford, Director of Product Management, for his hospitality. Our Topic: In a recent poll, more than 70% of CEOs listed innovation as one of their top three areas of focus. Yet, only 16% believe their companies are better innovators than their peers. It seems everyone wants their companies, their teams, and their people to be more innovative, but few know how to get it done. Join Jeff Ivany, Pillar Technology's VP of Digital Experience in a conversation about how Pillar leverages Design Thinking, Lean, and Agile to accelerate valuable business ideas from inception to implementation. Business Analysts, UX professionals, and Product Managers will benefit from this discussion (so would most Technology and Business leaders), and take away some big ideas to accelerate your own company's innovation initiatives. The Format: As usual, we will have networking/mingling time from 5:30-6:00, with the presentation beginning at 6:00. Dinner and beverages will be provided. https://www.granular.ag https://www.linkedin.com/in/matt-crawford-338b744b https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffivany

  • ProductTank Meetup - Examining the Product Owner Role

Join us for our next Des Moines/Ames Product Tank Meetup! As with everything else related to agile, the nature of the Product Owner role, and whether it is needed at all, depends a great deal on context. As teams discover this, it leads to some common questions: What do Product Owners Really Do? Do we even need Product Owners? Join Kent McDonald to examine the Product Owner role and attempt to answer the above questions. He’ll share his experiences and give you a chance to share your perspectives with each other. By the end of the session, you’ll have more insight into the Product Owner role and how it applies (or not) to your situation. This includes an understanding of common organizational models for product owners (including what part of the organization they fit in), how to determine appropriate product ownership responsibilities for your situation, and whether you need Product Owners to have successful product ownership. More info on this talk: https://www.kbp.media/go/product-owner/ Kent is a writer and product manager who helps product people deliver powerful internal products. He has IT and product development experience in a variety of industries including financial services, health insurance, nonprofit, and automotive. Kent practices his craft as Content Curator at Agile Alliance and shares his ideas and experiences at kbp.media (https://www.kbp.media/). When not writing or product managing, Kent is his family’s #ubersherpa, listens to jazz and podcasts (but not necessarily podcasts about jazz), and collects national parks. Kent is author of Beyond Requirements: Analysis with an Agile Mindset and co-author of Stand Back and Deliver: Accelerating Business Agility. 5:30-6:00 mingling time 6:00-7:00 content Drinks and food will be provided.

Matt Keller (linkedin (https://www.linkedin.com/in/matt-keller-8abb8a/)) from Workiva (http://www.workiva.com/) will share the results of a year-long experiment in which work was organized into "Missions" tackled by "Heist Teams," rather than traditional sprints. 5:30-6:00 mingling time 6:00-7:00 content Drinks and pizza will be provided.
