Interactive Workshop: Product Team Structures

  • Product teams vary greatly from company to company and product roles evolve with company strategy.

Let’s meet up and share a snapshot of our current organizational structures and where our teams are headed in the new year.

We’ll each rough out our team structures with sharpies and post-it notes, think through how these structures influence our work, and then share with the group.

Let’s have a candid discussion about what’s working, what isn’t, and how our organizations are evolving. We’ll gain insight into alternative approaches to product management, design, and product marketing along with how local companies are changing and growing.

No preparation required – we’ll work through this together and learn from each other as we go. Your ProductTank team will be on hand to facilitate.

Thank you to American Express for its support in hosting us at their Downtown Tempe facility.

We look forward to seeing you all on the 25th!

Looking forward to learning your perspectives. In full disclosure I'm not a product manager, but product management is the greater majority of my recruitment work. As a recruiter, there is a real talent shortage in this area, so it is an interesting and exciting space.

Appreciate the opportunity to learn and network... and also to hopefully keep you apprised of interesting opportunties and/or organizational trends from a recruiter's outside perspective. I'll be there for the first half and I'm an open door if anyone wants to chat.

I'm acquiring door prizes for the January meeting FYI . . . Let me know if you have some connections. For instance, the HR folks usually have a drawer of company-branded company SWAG, and Daddy needs a new duffle bag!

The first door-prize has already been identified: Tickets to http://www.standupscottsdale.com/ because you've got to have a good sense of humor to be a Product Manager, right!? Not to mention the ability to handle hecklers, especially during big-room (PI planning) sessions.

:crying-emoji: will they ever be held in.... Phoenix?

Hi Jen! We held the very first meetup in Phoenix and we plan to host more in Phoenix. We've been choosing locations based on who has volunteered space for the community's use and any unique considerations for the event (e.g. screening a movie). The Downtown Tempe location for the January Meetup is pretty central by Metro Phoenix standards; unfortunately it's impossible to find a location that's convenient for everyone. Any Phoenix spaces that you think would be a good fit for the group? (fits 50-75 people, available on weeknights, and no cost for infrequent use)
