There are 3 ways to reach this trail. Our route will be via Ophir (CR 361 - 360) to CR 369. It is about 6 miles on dirt roads, but the last time I was there, they were fairly easy to drive (no big rocks or boulders). There is a parking area & sign for St. Charles Peak.
Trail: The trail is about 6 miles round trip with 600 feet elevation gain, starting at 11,200 & reaching 11,800 feet. It is almost 4 miles shorter than accessing the trail from highway 165, and the elevation gain is much less.
So this is a great way to get to the top of St. Charles Peak and see the wonderful views! There is a weather station up top, and a hidden treasure too!
Dogs: You can bring your pups, but since it is spring/summer, the trails are a little busier than usual. So please bring a leash, water & snacks for you and your dog. We'll eat lunch at the top before we head back down.
Premeetup: Meet at the dirt lot behind Subway Restaurant-Southgate, between 7:15 & 7:30 AM. 2nd premeetup will be at the Rye/Colorado City rest stop between 7:50 & 8:00 AM. We will follow each other from there to Ophir Creek Road. If you want to meet there, please wait at Ophir Creek Road for us to arrive. Then we will have everyone together, and arrive at the TH at the same time. Please load my number into your cell phone 406-5324, and text me if we need to be in touch.
RSVP: When you RSVP, tell me where I will be meeting you. I can fit 2 more people and one medium dog in my vehicle if you would like to ride with me.
This will be fun! Hope you can join us!
