Title: Introduction to OwnCloud,

Type: Hackathon / Workshop

Time required: 120 Min or more.

Level: beginner

Skills: familiarity with shell (terminal)

Details: With so many services like iCloud and Dropbox getting hacked these days, it's no surprise that more people want to pull their data off the cloud. Instead of missing out on those great syncing features, you can create your own cloud storage service that you control with a service called ownCloud. With it, you'll get syncing files, notes, calendars, and more. ownCloud is open source file sync and share software for everyone from individuals, to large enterprises. ownCloud provides a safe, secure, and compliant file synchronization and sharing solution on servers that you control. Whether you are using a mobile device, a workstation, or a web client, ownCloud provides the ability to put the right files in the right hands at the right time on any device with one simple-to-use, secure, private and controlled solution. This talk will enable the attendees to setup an ownCloud server up and running in minutes. This server can then be accessed from other computers, mobiles etc in the same network using a web UI, or using a desktop clients and mobile apps. The server can also be configured to be accessed over the web.

Better come with your own Laptops, as we will be fiddling with some system config files.
