Thanks to our sponsor, Object Rocket, for providing food & drinks at this event!
Kivy is a python framework for making cross-platform apps. It provides a ton of tools to help you put together your app: widgets like buttons, menus, and text input boxes, and layouts to help you organize them.
In this meetup, I'll show some of the features of kivy. First we'll learn about the different widgets and layouts available, and we'll see how to use kivy's event binding to get something to happen, for example a function is called when a button is pressed. This is all you need to start designing a simple app! Next, we'll look at a way to separate the design and layout of your app from the python code that actually builds the interface - using the kivy language. Then I'll demo how to package an app for android using buildozer. If there's time, we can talk about the kivy screen manager, which allows you to build apps with multiple pages.
The materials for the meetup can be forked from my github repository. I will also bring thumb drives to the meetup so you can copy the materials from there.
To download and install kivy, use the link below: click on the icon for your OS to get install instructions.
Let me know if you have trouble installing, and I'll help as best I can (I'm Ashley, one of the event hosts in the list to the right). If you don't end up getting it installed before the meetup, don't worry! This meetup will include lots of demos, and you can always look on with your neighbor. See you soon! :)
