PyLadies South Bay: May Meetup (Learn Git)

Come hang out, hack and chat! Dinner will be provided. Beginners and experts welcome. :)

This month

This month we'll be setting up Github accounts and learning about Git. If you're an old hand at Github, bring a project to hack on!

Github is where professional developers store, track, and share their code with others.

We'll be following these tutorials:

https://help.github.com/articles/set-up-git

http://try.github.io/levels/1/challenges/1

http://gitimmersion.com/index.html

If you're very new to development and don't know how to use the shell, I recommend this tutorial first, so you're oriented:

http://software-carpentry.org/4_0/shell/index.html

Who's invited?

This event is open to PyLadies and their friends of any gender. Kids of any age welcome! Queer and trans friendly.

How do I find you?

We'll be lounging in the main cafe. Here's a map on where to go:

Just come in the front doors and we'll be there!

I ride public transit, can I come?

Totally! For those of you coming from Caltrain, there's a free public shuttle that goes right to LinkedIn: http://www.caltrain.com/schedules/Shuttles/Shoreline_Shuttle.html

LI also has an official shuttle which technically is employees only, but unofficially it should be fine, too.

Hope to see you there!

A big thank you to LinkedIn for sponsoring us and giving us space and food. :)

Thank you so much to the organizers (for mentoring) and linkedIn (for food) looks like a great group of people. I am more a HTML/CSS/Javascript person, however, now you guys made me curious about "python" :-)
    I find this one helpful:

    Dear PyLadiesSF,

I have created a repo on GitHub where you can practice your newly acquired git and GitHub skills.

Send a pull request or two of the worst joke you know. Have fun!
