  • I suggest a Python Talk/Workshop aimed at Programmers who have prior experience with other programming languages. This could be a considerably long talk and/or split into multiple sessions.

Abstract: The workshop/talk would deal with
    1. Overview
    2. Installation
    3. Basic Syntax
    4. Data Structures in Python (Strings/Lists/Tuples/Sets/Dictionaries)
    5. Control Flow (Loops and If/Elif/Else statements)
    6. Functions
    7. Modules
    8. Input & Output (includes reading and writing files)
    9. Errors and Exceptions
    10. Classes

I've been developing applications for many years for mid-range and desktop platforms. Expecting now to be doing a lot of web work and Python is getting the nod as a good scripting language to focus on for the present. Learning is faster sometimes when the effort is shared as interest and creativity are stimulated. Hoping to find some timely meet ups!

There's a lot to any computer language and Python is no exception. I think it would be more optimal to split it into a series if there is enough interest. It would be really helpful if there were small projects we could do separately or in small teams as we learn. Doing is the only way to see if you really understand programming concepts. I started working through Think Python (a free book that teaches the language and concepts), but I haven't spent a lot of time with it, so I'm still very near the beginning.

Can we try to schedule this for some date in October, and as soon as possible. I've got some travel plans germinating for October, that I'll have to work around.
