SpiffWorkflow--Business Process Automation the Python Way and Lightning Talks

PyCHO is excited to host our first in person event this year at Studio IX with lightning talks followed by a talk by Dan Funk of Sartography, about their open source Python based project called SpiffWorkflow. He will present how his company used SpiffWorkflow extensively on a recent project at UVA and which they are extending for a new Web 3.0 company.

Dan writes:
You could describe SpiffWorkflow as a "Business Process Automation" tool, and it wouldn't be a lie. It is a tool for interpreting and executing things that look a lot like flow-charts and spreadsheets. But it is important to understand that we are at heart, command line people. Writing code and configuring applications is something we do in a terminal using VIM or maybe a modern IDE. However, we are also deep believers in collaboration, and empowering our teammates from outside software engineering. As more and more people from all walks of life are now getting some exposure to programming, we started looking for tools that would allow them to collaborate with us, without them having to learn EVERYTHING. We've pulled together what we believe to be the best tools - things that are easy to learn at first and continue to be useful long term. Like Python. Dan Funk runs a consulting company called Sartography, over the hill in Staunton. He's also one of the founders of the Staunton Makerspace. We look forward to seeing you at 7pm on Wednesday September 28th in the Gallery at Studio IX (studioix.co).

Lightning talks are an excellent opportunity to absorb interesting bitesized Python chunks and spark all sorts of conversations and connections. We're hoping you come ready to share, be surprised, and walk away with new friends and new ideas.

If you'd like to give a talk, please sign up here (we have limited availability): https://forms.gle/PbYUtPwubVxPwp8V6 or message your friendly PyCHO coordinators Erin or Paul on the Meetup platform and we'll get you signed up.

Light refreshments will be served.
