Join us on Thursday July 24th in the new Factory campus in Berlin for an exciting evening of self-tracking presentations, app demonstrations, and conversation about the Quantified Self.
We're thrilled to be able to have our meeting in this wonderful new building with a sun terrace and a view over Berlin. Come to connect with friends, meet new people, check out tools, and learn from personal self-tracking stories. Please RSVP as soon as you can.
6:30 -7:00 pm SOCIAL ROUND
We'll start with some drinks and an informal demo and social hour. If you are making something useful for self-trackers – software, hardware, web services, or data standards – you are welcome to demo during the social hour. Please let us know in advance if you want to participate.
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm SHOW&TELLS
QS Show&Tell talks always answer our three prime questions: What did you do? How did you do it? What did you learn? These talks will be 5 to 10 minutes long with Q&A after and you can support them with slides. If you have a self-tracking project that you are willing to share, please let us know in your RSVP.
Sleep Tracking (S.E. Sever)
S.E. SEVER will talk about sleep-tracking. She will share how a combination of self-tracking, lab data, and experimenting with supplements helped her to tame a sleep disorder which had left the doctors baffled. She will review different approaches and recommend different tools and books to increase the odds against any sleep disorder.
Social Life of Dreaming (Josh Berson)
In May, at QSEU14 in Amsterdam, anthropologist Josh Berson controversially argued that the Quantified Self needs to shrug off its commitment to a vision of behavior change that starts and ends with the individual. In this new talk, Josh will invite the QS Berlin community to start a conversation about how self-tracking could be reoriented toward collective self-regard. Our focus will be that most seemingly interior form of behavior, dreaming. Historically and cross-culturally, dreams have been regarded as a key source of insight into the challenges faced by the community as a whole. Could this perspective serve the Quantified Self? Could a QS outlook encourage the integration of collective dream tracking into contemporary urban life? Josh will describe an experiment that offers a practical starting point for asking these questions, a collective dreaming workshop. One of the workshop’s instigators, movement artist Jessy Tuddenham, will be on hand to push the conversation further.
Self Tracking as Coping Tool (Andreas Schreiber)
Andreas, a driving member of the QS Cologne community will speak on how he overcame a medical incident with self tracking.
8:00 - 9:30 pm SOCIAL
Talk to the speakers, chat with friends, ask other people what they're tracking, hang out and enjoy the great view over Berlin in the summer.
The venue for this Show&Tell is generously being provided by our friends at the Factory Berlin. We'd also like to thank our sponsors and friends of QS Mailjet, Medisana and Noom. We couldn't do these programs without them. If you or your company are interested in sponsoring Quantified Self, or hosting a future Show&Tell at your office, please let us know.
Thank you and see you there!
