What we're about
What is QTIPOC NATION?
This is a Leeds based meet up for all people of colour who also identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, non-binary, intersex or questioning (LGBTQI+). The aim of the group is to have a safe, social space where we can be ourselves and connect with others who can relate to our experiences. We want to celebrate QTIPOC lives as well as being a space where people can share their experiences of discrimination/oppression/marginalisation in a supportive and understanding environment. It will be a non-commercial and non-alcohol centred space.
Why are we setting up a queer POC meetup?
There is a severe lack of spaces and events by and for LGBT POC in Leeds. We want to foster and build a space that aspires and works to be as respectful, inclusive and compassionate as possible and is run by queer people of colour for queer people of colour so WE can navigate our own discussions. Leeds does have QTIPOC communities but very few spaces and opportunities for us to socialise. Along with Our Space (https://www.facebook.com/ourspaceleeds/?fb_dtsg_ag=AdxmNIebK8XzdhUXmAuVMC2bbxTfYGYAnkazaZe0utsfDg%3AAdwps8mD4_fAx27zFKuF_4Zv-eW16VAjdVTbYQyaI7uLhA#), The Bayard Project (https://www.facebook.com/groups/ethniclgbtyorkshire/?ref=group_header) and BE - LGBTQ (https://twitter.com/BLGBTQ), QTIPOC NATION realise the need for spaces like this and we welcome your participation, your thoughts and ideas as members of the QTIPOC community.
We will be posting times and places of meet ups soon. But in the meantime please let me know if you are interested in joining. I can be contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org
