Hello to any interested,
We still have a lovely group of people that meet at the Public Martket on Thursdays. The co-organizer quit coming and so our meet up was dropped from the site, but we've had around 4 people who come consistently every week. I love our Thursday night group!! Unfortunately, I have a Thursday night class this semester and so, we'll be meeting on another day. This week we're planning on going to the Alverno Presents: Global Union. I've been pretty excited about it since checking out the line-up Sunday, and discovering this really great band.

New people are very welcome to join us.

Hi,
Rich is right about the split meetings at Café Fixx, of course.  I was talking about City Market.  City Market on Capitol is the closest meeting we have to the Eastside right now.  There used to be a meet-up at the Public Market on Thursdays, but apparently it folded, and Dave used to organize a Saturday meeting out of his office in the Germania Building on Wells.  Also, Emily's meet-up originally was at Brewed Café‚ on Brady, before it was moved to St. Francis.

Are there ever any Spanish meetups in the downtown area -- east side, Riverwest, Third Ward, Walker's Point vicinity -- or am I in the wrong group? Like Willie, I'm on the east side but never see anything close happening.
Thanks,
jacobo.

Hi Daniela,
My name is Elke (with an e at the end).  The meetings last about 90 minutes (but could be kept shorter) and on average we have had between four and six participants.  I believe that Rosa will confirm that we have done well, but that people have not shown up consistently.  This, of course, is the nature of meet-ups: people come on a voluntary basis.  Also, this particular meet-up started at the beginning of Summer and I expect that it will grow as the weather cools down.

Hi Elk,

I have a couple of questions for you.
how many people will be coming on Saturday?
How long do the meetings last?

Thanks :)

Daniela,
This would be awesome.  Right now there is a Saturday meeting at Café Fixx in St. Francis that is in need of a leader. Emily used to lead it, but she has other responsibilities now.  It alternates with Rosa's meetings and it takes place at 3 p.m.  Meet-up could be moved, but--apart from being so inconveniently located-- Café Fixx is not too bad because we have a room of our own.  It is scheduled to meet this Saturday.
Saludos,
Elke

Hello everyone!

My name is Daniela, Im originally from Chile and I joined this group to help other people to learn Spanish (including my boyfriend). I would like to attend your events and I am willing to commit to most of them. I cant to all, but I am usually available Monday trough Friday after 5:30pm and most Saturdays and Sundays.
If you need help from someone who's first language is Spanish, I am happy to be there, I just need a steady schedule because I am not always looking at hotmail.
Please let me know when is the next meeting and where and I will be there. I would appreciate a cell phone number in case I get lost and someone in the that could guide the meetings because this would be the first time I am doing this in USA.
Thank you and I look forward to meet you all! :)

Dan,
Thank you so much for stepping up and taking over the role of organizer of Que-tal. A huge "gracias" also to Emily who was an extraordinary organizer.  I am a regular and I would not mind stepping up a bit but my fear is that my Spanish just is not fluent enough.  (Of course, another fear is having too much on my plate already.)  You write that organizing a meetup "does not require much skill" but it seems to me that in order to make a meetup meaningful there has to be at least one person whose Spanish is really good.  Although there are moments of optimism when I feel that I am just on the cusp, there are other moments when a word in Spanish just does not come to me and I feel like a lousy beginner.  I wanted to share these feelings with you, Dan, and the group to put a face on those who apparently are just "along for the ride", but often have their valid reasons why they are hesitating to step up.  The Saturday meetings are important to me and I am committed to attending them, but I cannot be the Spanish speaker others are leaning on.  I am also curious if other members consider Café Fixx to be a perfect meeting place, as I consider it to be a bit remote.
Just my two cents...
Saludos,
Elke
