MECA Potluck with Dr Sultan Abdulhameed in CA

We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Sultan AbdulHameed will be arriving to LA from New York to join us. Dr. Sultan Abdulhameed is a Professor of atmospheric sciences at Stony Brook University in New York where he is also the Director of the Institute for Terrestrial and Planetary Atmospheres. He has published more than one hundred papers in international scientific journals on atmospheric physics and chemistry. His book ‘The Quran and the Life of Excellence.’ was published in 2010 in the United States by Outskirts Press and its Indonesian translation “Al-Quran untuk Hidupmu” was published by Zaman Press in Jakarta in 2012.

Dr. Abdulhameed is the scholar the Meca Quran Study group uses as a guide through conference call from New York on a weekly basis. We are excited to have him come out and join us for the first time live at our event. He plans on introducing his book and having a very interactive and enjoyable discussion. We recommend you do your best to participate.

We also ask you to bring any Islamic Litterature/books/old Qurans etc. that you want to donate. We are collecting for our Incarcerated Muslims Project.

5:30pm - Arrival, Intros, & Set-Out Food Dishes
6:00pm - Dinner & Mingling
7:00pm - Isha Prayer followed by Quranic Reflections
7:30pm - Dr. Sultan Abdulhameed's presentation and discussion
8:30pm - Dessert, Coffee/Tea, Socializing
10:00pm - Event Wrap-up and & Clean up

We encourage you to bring a main dish if possible and enough for 8-10 people.

Remember: If you can't cook, dessert isn't the only option! Check out your supermarket deli, Trander Joe's, or Costco for some great ready-to-eat options (e.g. humus and pita, dolmas, prepared salads) or stop by your favorite restaurant for take-out (e.g. pizza, sandwiches, chicken, kebabs, samosas) We do request that you try to keep the food Zabihah/Halal so that all members can enjoy the meal.

Guests without a dish will be kindly asked to donate $10/person at the door.

**MECA attracts members from ALL over SoCal, and our monthly locations certainly reflect that. Be sure to connect with your fellow MECANs to set up carpools!**
