We are currently in search of a Staff Predictive / Statistical Analytics Engineer for our client, the global leader in mobile radio based services. Staff Predictive / Statistical Analytics Engineer

Overview of responsibilities:
• Will analyze data that comes in from the web player or Android players.
• Person tasked with:
o Where to apply the data
o At what point people drop off listening
o Analyzing what consumers were doing and why they may have dropped off
o What characters make someone a good listener
o Researching what makes a a company give a subscriber life time value.
o Researching behaviors of listeners
o What influences come about through changes in the app/system which will happen when they work with engineering
• Will build predictive values, predict probability of churn (Turnover) or subscription/conversion rate and implement these models in the system
• May decide based on data – Let’s try A/B test of this feature
• For example – this person may build a churn model, look at historic data and how they behave prior to churn, he hasn’t listened for 5 weeks, he has a 72% of churn.
• Will have a Model/score every listener for churn – work with engineering/data warehouse team. Perhaps they will decide anyone over 80% of churn will get an email to renengage.
• Ad hoc analysis – see if features work. Mostly in SQL, Oracle data mining.

Company Stats/Perks:
• Compensation includes highly competitive salary a potential bonus and/or stock options, with competitive company benefits.
• Company is 6+ years established and have an product released. They do not consider themselves a startup.
• They have a proven business model, scaled, the product has potential to earn on every listener thru subscription and/or advertisement.
• Additionally a recent round of funding raised $20M.
• Company is 50 people, development is 25, including; Java, iOS, Android, etc. They are growing again.
• Company is uniquely supportive of employees with family and have low turnover as a result.
• Currently privately funded they are historically very stable.

Recruiter Notes (requirements):
• Must have worked with engineering, data warehouse teams – cross functional teams.
• Good with R scripting.
• Previous strength with MS SQL, PL/SQL (Oracle).
• Ideally is someone who has Oracle Data mining.
• Company is currently using Oracle advanced analytics which has Oracle Data mining as part of the platform and has an R scripting component.
• Java, C++ or another OO languages is a plus
• SAS is a plus

Alternatively will consider:
• Applicants with only R scripting who can learn programming or SQL. Would require large data exposure.
• Applicants with only SAS scripting with some R or some programming/SQL may also work.

Recruiter Note:
• Initially will be 2-3 travel days a week for the first 4-6 weeks to San Diego to get acclimated to the data and the engineering team.

Staff Predictive / Statistical Analytics Engineer

Position Description
As an analytics scientist, your primarily duties will be data mining for quantitative analysis, identification of user behavior patterns and trends in data and working closely with engineering to potential transform the product and correspondingly user experience, based on observed trends. In addition, your duties will include building and deploying scoring models of user behavior (such as conversion or churn) and working with the reporting team to create periodic reports of scores and with the warehousing team for automated actions on scores. As we are a small startup, you will likely also be involved assisting across functional areas performing LTV modeling, budget optimization etc.
You will need to be SQL savvy to be able to extract data from the warehouse, create variables and use R to perform statistical analyses. Among the tools at your disposal will be Oracle Data Mining, Omniture, Flurry and Oracle BI.

Successful individuals will be able to multi-task end-to-end across various projects, have good technical, communication and interpersonal skills, and above all, be the kind of person to take ownership of their tasks and deliverables.

Responsibilities
• Fully understand data sources and limitations, warehousing system and the impact of the data on business decisions
• Come up to speed quickly and understand requirements and needs of various stakeholder teams
• Understand data warehousing schemas and how they may be leveraged to assist in developing of reports and insights
• Perform and deliver accurate analyses and reports based on data for marketing, finance, advertising teams
• Respond to ad-hoc requests for data and analyses
• Prioritize tasks appropriately after consultations with stakeholders in order to be able to deliver on-time results
• Create and maintain BI reports and delivery systems – develop report automation, code versioning, data archiving and retrieval mechanisms
• Work with senior management and create easy-to-read dashboards on KPIs and other metrics
• Work proactively to identify opportunities for process improvements
• Some travel will be required to San Diego

Necessary:
• 3-5 years’ experience in advanced statistical techniques, machine learning, multivariate regression, classification problems, large data
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Must have built scoring models – churn, response etc.
• Experience with statistical packages – R is preferred (SAS acceptable); also experience in SQL/PLSQL (Oracle Data Mining is most desired)
• Experience with other tools – Omniture, Flurry, Oracle Business Intelligence desirable
• Experience with large data sets will be nice
• Excel/PowerPoint skills
• Must have worked with other teams – engineering, product, data warehousing etc.
• Teamwork and collaborative skills; ability to prioritize work; independently with minimal supervision; proven ability to meet deadlines; Decision making ability; Able to work in a small team at a fast, start-up pace
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Experience interacting and presenting to senior management

Desirable:
• Experience in Big Data – e.g. InfiniDB, Hadoop
• Other programming experience – Java, Perl, Python, UNIX/Linux scripting
