YouGov is seeking a technically sophisticated person for its Operations Group, based in Palo Alto. We are looking for someone who combines knowledge of applied statistics or econometrics with strong computational skills (especially R, Python and SQL). Work in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating environment where technically sophisticated solutions to marketing, financial, and political problems are developed.

Primary responsibilities include statistical modeling, computation, and maintenance of the internal R package. The analyst will also assist and provide statistical advice to the operations and research groups, as well as having primary responsibility (from design to analysis to report writing) for specific projects.

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or M.A. in statistical computing, applied mathematics, or social science. Relevant job experience will also be considered.
  • Extensive experience with R is essential.
  • Experience with R programming and package development is a plus.
  • Knowledge of applied statistics and econometrics is essential.
  • Familiarity with some or all of discrete choice models, panel data, measurement error, missing data, hierarchical Bayes, survey sampling, factor analysis, structural equation models, experimental design, and data mining very useful.
  • Knowledge of WinBugs/JAGS as well as LaTeX is useful.
  • Programming with C/C++, Python, SQL, etc. as well as experience in software development is a plus.
  • Ability to learn new software and techniques.
  • Commitment and attention to detail and accuracy.
