“TO UNDERSTAND THE WORLD, YOU MUST FIRST UNDERSTAND A PLACE LIKE MISSISSIPPI” – WILLIAM FAULKNER
ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
The Mississippi Delta is a place of raw authenticity with its rollicking juke joints, plate-lunch cafes and boarded-up towns with markers revealing the stories of blues legends, civil rights heroes and history-making moments that changed the nation.
It is in this unique setting in which we’ll be hosting our 5-day photography workshop focused on documentary photography and storytelling led by Jorge Delgado-Ureña and guest mentor Rory Doyle.
Jorge Delgado-Ureña: renown Spanish photographer, resident teacher and co-founder of Raw Photo Tours, Jorge has over 15 years of experience in photography and an innate ability for teaching. He’s been published in several local and international magazines, including National Geographic.
Rory Doyle is a freelance editorial and commercial photographer in Cleveland, Mississippi – the heart of the Mississippi Delta. He received a 2018 Visual Artist Fellowship from the Mississippi Arts commission for his ongoing project on African American cowboys and cowgirls in the Delta. This project was featured in the Half King Photo series in New York City in June 2018 and a concurrent show in Harlem. Doyle was recognised for his work by winning the photojournalism category at the 2018 EyeEm awards in Berlin, Germany.
Aside from these two fantastic photography mentors, you'll also be able to enjoy some amazing local food cooked by our private chef, Stewart Robinson over the course of this 5-day workshop!
