What we're about

The central mission of REAL Conversations is simple... REAL Change does not happen without REAL Relationships, so we first seek to "better understand one another” through conversations. In addition to stating our own points, we are LISTENING to others with different viewpoints (we are "building bridges").

POWER is developed through relationships, and nothing is accomplished (nothing is CHANGED) until strong relationships are built. Nobody can change "the System" alone... this applies to every person… black, brown, and white, too. So, the intention of this group is NOT to simply have conversations... that's only the starting point...

REAL Conversations → REAL Relationships → REAL Change

Upcoming events (4+)

Real Conversation on Zoom! (We usually have 15 even if folks don't RSVP)

Zoom Video Communications, Inc.

Welcome to an “Honest Conversation about Race"...

See Zoom Link Below and the Password is sent out via email on day of event. If you don’t find it, text[masked]

We try to examine ALL sides of any issue related to race. We have had most of our meetings on Zoom recently and they have included very passionate sharing of ideas and viewpoints!
(Meetings were formerly held at the Southeast Library in KCMO).

BRING YOUR OWN TOPIC... we can talk about anything relevant to the group and the mission of the group. If you haven't read the mission of the group, it is reprinted below (bottom of this page).

You'll get a chance to tell your experiences (we share the "airspace") and then we'll investigate solutions... there are ALWAYS solutions!

Join us on Zoom... we want you to add your voice (if you're new, call or text Keith at least 24 hours before meeting[masked]).

We expect everyone to self-regulate, meaning you should monitor your own time speaking and spend a lot of time listening to others.
If the meeting lasts 90 minutes and there are nine people, then each person ideally should talk for about 10 minutes total … That’s not long... so make your points concise. (*onscreen reminder*) Wait until the prior speaker is completely finished, and then pause and wait to be recognized.

Because we are not together in the same room, there’s a slight delay and it’s easy for two or three people to start talking at once. Please wait to be recognized by the moderator before speaking… you might raise your hand or click "raise hand" in the reactions button below to the right.
