Movie Night: The Hobbit in IMAX 3D

IMPORTANT: Tickets are already on sale for this (see link in comments), and it's probably a really good idea if you purchase them as soon as confirm you can go because they will very likely get sold out by that morning at the latest. Movie starts at 6:15, and considering the popularity of the movie, there will be a line, and I will very likely be in it by 5:15, please keep that in mind when scheduling your day.

Note: Tuesday are $9 for for 3D or IMAX movies. Only extra fee would be if tickets are purchased online (recommended if we are going to see a movie at IMAX).

From comingsoon.net:

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

We're sitting down, 2 seats saved (for Derek & Yash), not sure about Matt's situation.

I have a potential scheduling conflict so I'm going to take a chance not buying my ticket in advance. I don't want to get stuck paying for something I can't make it to. I will post tomorrow...trying to shuffle the schedule.

Is the line you're planning to be in at 5:15 for buying a ticket? Just want to confirm that there's no need to arrive so early if I get my ticket online in advance.

Hi Joy, welcome to the group. As per the description and comments, tickets will likely be sold out long before the line starts, so the reason we get in line as early as we do is to make sure we're able to get the best seats we can. IMAX usually starts seating about 45 minutes before a show starts and since these are generally sold out, the tend to want us not to leave seats open.

As a bonus for those attending, I hear there will be a 9 minute clip of the new Star Trek film (Into Darkness) played before the movie. Only for IMAX, standard theaters will just get a trailer.

the new superman trailer is supposed to be out with this movie and this time it better be. i was upset not to see the first trailer before the batman or avengers movie and their excuse was the movie was too long to add it.

Hopefully you can stay awake through the trailers ;-)

Is there a later showing that night? 6:15 is a bit early for me.

Hey Kevin, unfortunately, since there's only one IMAX theater screen, there's only a handful of showings per day. The next showing isn't until 10:05. This is the one problem of seeing movies at the IMAX.

As mentioned in the description, it's highly advisable to purchase tickets as soon as you've confirmed you're going. Do not presume that tickets will be available "at the window", because they will almost definitely not be (I've seen this happen at every IMAX movie we've gone to, people not being able to go because they didn't purchase tickets in advance). You can get tickets here:

Movie time starts at 6:15, so the plan is to be in line by 5:15. If you're going to be later than 6:30, please get in touch with me and let me know. I will email my contact info to those RSVPed yes the night before.
