This is a Girlfriend Ride* series that runs weekly 2/16-5/11. It is designed to help you prepare for the 5/18 Reach the Beach (RTB) event. We will have two route options; one for training to 50 miles and one for[masked]. Expect us to be welcoming of newcomers, focused on improving our endurance goals together, and ready to extend loads of encouragement to each other along the way. That said, it is not a walk-in-the-park or smell-the-roses kind of series. We will be focused on reaching weekly distance goals, building endurance, maintaining a steady pace, and keeping rest stops short. Supportive + friendly + focused!
* Girlfriend Ride simply means the ride is free to all RLAG members and is hosted by one or more RLAG ride leaders. As a 'girlfriend ride', no formal coaching is included. (See RLAG calendar for coaching and training opportunities).
WHO IS THIS RIDE FOR?
Women preparing to ride[masked] miles in RTB (or any similar long distance event/tour). This series is geared towards an experienced road cyclist who is comfortable navigating traffic in urban and rural settings (in other words, potentially busy roads, with and without bike lanes, narrow or no shoulders and occasional trucks). If you're NEW to road biking, but eager to learn, you are encouraged to come out and give it a shot - and STRONGLY encouraged to take advantage of RLAG training clinics and coaching that allow you to build good riding skills. Be aware that this series is NOT designed for the 25-mile RTB distance; other RLAG rides of shorter distances would be more appropriate.
ABOUT YOUR BIKE:
We strongly recommend a ROAD BIKE for this series. Hybrids, mountain bikes, etc. are almost always heavier and less efficient, causing most riders to fatigue after 10-20 miles. Also, ensure the bike is in good working order (a bike mechanic should be the judge of that). The worst kind of mechanical issue during a group ride is the one you could have prevented.

- Start time & locations will be the SAME for each group, with few exceptions. In these cases, you will see TWO separate Meetup posts on the same day. RSVP for the ONE that suits you.
- ALWAYS check the Comments on the morning of the ride for leader updates
- See "Comments" section EACH WEEK for route details; two will be posted, one for the 50-milers and one for the[masked] milers.
- Ride leaders reserve the right to adjust the route based upon weather conditions, road construction, or their judgement of what is best for the group.
- The routes are designed to be similar; we hope the two groups will connect along the way so we can cheer one another on as we pass or pause.
• Roadways: combination of bike paths, urban and rural roads
• Pace: 12-15 MPH to start, but evolving as we build distance (50-mile group target is 14-16. 15-18 MPH for the longer group
• Terrain: Flat for February, adding rolling hills in March and some climbing in April-May.
SWEEPER: No sweeper regroup at turns. We will wait but request that you do your best to select the group in which you can maintain the pace.

• cell phone (you are responsible to have a pickup plan if you cannot finish a ride)
REQUIRED: Helmet, flat repair kit (inner tube, tire levers, pump or CO2). No ear buds. Your bike must be in good working order. All riders need to sign a waiver.
WEATHER: Generally, we don't ride when temp is below freezing, in snow, heavy rain, high wind or very stormy conditions. We will ride in gray/light rain. ALWAYS check back for updates ON THE DAY OF THE RIDE. Changes will be posted IN COMMENTS no later than 2 hours before the start time.
