RRTU Monday Fly Tying Nights -Summer School

The meetings are free and are open to all. All tying levels are welcome. We have extra materials and vices for those who need them and there are volunteers who will work with the new people who want to try fly tying. We have free coffee and donuts and always have a fly fishing DVD playing. This is a very informal get together with the purpose of sharing our hobby with other people who want to find out what it is all about in a laid back atmosphere. You will find it to be a very relaxing evening even if you don't want to tie flies. Come down and have a cup of coffee and meet a great bunch of guys, talk fishing or sports (no politics) or pick up some tying tips.
***If anyone has some pattern suggestions, please post and I will try to put them on a list to tie at the upcoming nights.***

Another great night with the boys. Very impressed with the efforts make on Vinny's ISO. pattern. Tom noted Vinny's special blend of the dubbing. I really liked that color better than the color blended on the video. Of course it was special to have Vin in the house tying his pattern. I would suggest to the beginners that you pull up a chair sometime and watch Vin work his mojo. Also take note of his organized tying materials and hook storage. See ya next time.

Thx once again to Jake for guiding us through Vinny's Isonychia Nymph. And how cool was it that Vinny was there and shared his personal dubbing blend with all of us! I'll upload some additional pics after work. Great night with 12 signing in.

I am pretty much a beginner. So I am really happy to not be just learning specific patterns, but a technical foundation which can be used for almost any pattern. And having a lot of fun doing it!

Another excellent tying session with Jake and my co-advanced beginners. A more difficult pattern, but we all did OK.

With a teaching combination of Jake and Vinnie we would be unstoppable. It would be like learning rock and roll from Mick and Keith, or Paul and John or Axl and Slash..wait skip that one, you know what I mean.

I was thinking we can tie an Isonychia nymph pattern since it is happening now and will last till October in some of our local streams. And what better example of this pattern than RRTU's own Vinny's Isonychia. If you search Tightline Productions you will see Matt Grobert tie it. And if we are really lucky, the man himself will be there Monday. When I say the man, I meant Vinny not Matt. O.k Vin, you just got your props...

Joe and I are planning to see all of you in the spring at your March madness event. Until then, we will continue to learn as much as we can about tying flies.

Fly fishing is pretty big in Florida, especially on the coast. I hope gets to give it a shot. He can always ask us questions if he has any. Best wishes.

We thank for traveling so far each week to drive Joey to Cranford. Hopefully the group provided some mentor-ship for such a fine boy. We enjoyed having the two of you at our tying nights and we wish you the best. Tight lines to Joe....

Jo Ann, I'm sorry to hear that you and Joey won't be at our tying nights. I wish you both the best in the Sunshine State. It was my pleasure to teach Joey some tying tips. He was a great student. Im sure that fly tying will bring him countless hours of pleasure in the future. Please stay in touch through our Meet Up page. Best wishes!
