We are spending the day in the Essex / Suffolk borders for an easy walk around the historic market town of Sudbury and a visit to the East Anglian Railway on the Gainsborough branch line. We will start at Chappel and Wakes Colne station which is also the location for the railway museum with extensive sidings for trips on heritage trains. Today is the Diesel Festival with trips on railbuses and several guest locomotives.
Our walk takes in the Suffolk countryside around Sudbury which inspired Gainsborough. We can visit the art gallery displaying many of his works. The walk will take in the Stour valley and the many Georgian buildings of the town which became wealthy from the silk trade. This branch railway also passes over the impressive Chappel viaduct, with 23 arches it is one of the finest brick built railway structures in the region.

Refreshments -Cafés at rail museum. Lots of choice in Sudbury.

Travel - 10:00am service from Liverpool Street arrives at Chappel and Wakes Colne at 11:00am. Get return to Sudbury.

Start - 11:10am at Chappel and Wakes Colne station, Wakes Colne, Essex, CO6 2DR. £5 fee for meet up costs. A good knowledge of English history is required to attend this event.
