Explore the historic rooms and halls of one of Fifth Avenue's largest mansions, and get a sense of how the upper class really lived during New York's Gilded Age over 100 years ago.
Join New York Adventure Club (https://www.nyadventureclub.com/) for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the Gilded Age Fletcher-Sinclair Mansion on 5th Avenue and 79th St, which has been home to the Ukrainian Institute of America (http://ukrainianinstitute.org/) — a non-profit institution started in 1955 that promotes Ukrainian culture, art, and literature to the Ukrainian diaspora.
Led by the caretaker of the mansion, our after-hours exploration will include:
• The history and story behind the 120-year-old landmarked mansion built by famed architect C.P.H. Gilbert
• A look inside many of the notable rooms of the six-story house, including the former kitchen, wood-paneled library, and lavish parlors
• A discussion around how the Ukrainian Institute of America acquired the mansion, and how it uses it today as both a headquarters and museum
• Stories about how the mansion has been transformed for private events, including a 2012 multi-million dollar makeover for the Met Gala after party (think rooms painted hot pink, Alicia Keys on the piano, and hovering lanterns)
