LEARN HOW TO SHARE FEEDBACK AS A GROUP TO MAKE BETTER PICTURES
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE FROM 9/10 TO 9/24 TO ACCOMMODATE SCHEDULING CONFLICT AT RALAC. Learning how to give and receive thoughtful feedback on your photography is a proven path to creating more satisfying images, whether they're well-loved family and travel snapshots, award-winning fine art pieces, or something in between. At our September meeting, we'll begin to tap into and share the rich and diverse knowledge and experience that runs deep among our members. We'll watch a video about how to evaluate our images, then we'll apply what we learn to three, non-member photographs we chose for this exercise to get our feet wet before we start critiquing our own images in subsequent meetings. Because it's a lot to take in, CarolAnne prepared cheatsheets and worksheets for us to use (bring a pen or pencil) and Dixie provided a link to the video so you can preview it if you wish. https://members.kelbyone.com/course/dgregory-photo-critiques/

What we're about

Our group grew out of a 2011 Rappahannock Art League photography workshop called Beyond Snapshots, which is a pretty good description of what we’re about. We offer opportunities to get together with other digital photographers—from beginners to professionals—to learn and practice ways to take and make better photos.

We have regular monthly meetings at the RAL Art Center in Kilmarnock, Virginia. First, we view and comment on photos shot for our monthly assignment. A photography-related presentation follows the Show & Tell.

Our members now have the opportunity to organize additional photography-related programs that interest them. We adopted the Meetup platform in May 2014 so we can offer a wider variety of programs at times other than our regular monthly meetings. Meetups include group photo shoots, workshops, classes, video presentations, demonstrations and field trips.

Members may enter their work in RAL’s annual photography exhibit, where professional photographers or photo editors judge and award ribbons. Our members may also enter other photography-eligible RAL exhibitions throughout the year.

Join our group to—

• Meet and make friends with other photographers
• Get out and about the Northern Neck to shoot interesting subjects
• Learn and apply basic, advanced, and artistic photography techniques and concepts
• Take your photography Beyond Snapshots
