Harold Burnley, the RAL Art Center President, Exhibiting Artist, and Photography Group member, has planned a photo shoot at the RVA Canal Walk in downtown Richmond. The Canal Walk stretches 1.25 miles along the James River and the Kanawha and Haxall canals between 5th and 17th streets. The RVA Canal Walk is free to the public. We’ll start with lunch at 11:30 at Casa Del Barco, 320 S. 12th Street. Then we’ll follow the Canal Walk Route Map to Brown’s Island, cross the James River via the T. Potterfield Pedestrian Bridge and back and continue along the Canal Walk to the Tredegar Iron Works and the Confederate Museum. We’ll cross the James again via the Lee under-hung Pedestrian Bridge to Belle Island, following the circuit trail around the island, passing the Hollywood Falls, rapids, and large rock formations. Nature, architecture, history, river recreation, and street life await you and your camera. We plan to leave for home at 4:30. There is no dedicated parking lot for the Canal Walk, but there is plenty of on-street parking and paid off-street parking nearby. Be sure to note and obey time restrictions as towing is strictly enforced. Carpooling: If you are willing to drive others or need a ride, you can coordinate transportation via the comments below or message other members via our Meetup. Maps: RSVP to this Meetup to receive the Canal Walk Route Map, which also includes parking areas and Casa Del Barco. Cover photograph by Harold Burnley
