Great Basin Permaculture is holding our Third Annual Mesquite Pancake Breakfast to highlight food that grows well in our dryland region using very little resources. Flour is made from the pods of native mesquite trees and has a sweet, nutty, chocolate-like flavor. Mesquite is gluten free, high in protein, low on the glycemic index, and a good source of soluble fiber. Toppings include agave nectar, prickly pear syrup, pomegranate jelly and jujube butter.
Vegan options are available, as well as raw foods, including organic and locally sourced figs, pomegranates, dates and sliced almonds.
Beverages include coffee, tea and juice.
We hold the breakfast at our 1/10-acre demonstration garden inside Vegas Roots Community Garden. The garden serves as a resource for permaculture design, heirloom and organic seed saving, water harvesting, soil-building and sustainable agriculture. Our mission is to inspire sustainable choices in the dryland communities of the Mojave and Great Basin deserts.
Suggested donation $15, $5 children under 10.
Maximum allowable attendees 150.
