• First Friday with Award-Winning Author-Illustrator Laura Vaccaro Seeger

    At Read With Me for this First Friday, we are honored and excited to be hosting two amazing children’s book creators, Laura Vaccaro Seeger and Jonathan D. Voss. Laura Vaccaro Seeger is the author and illustrator of nearly two dozen acclaimed picture books, including the popular Dog and Bear series, the first of which won the Boston Globe Horn Book Medal. She has been awarded a Caldecott Honor twice, for First the Egg and again for Green, and a Geisel Honor twice, for First the Egg and One Boy. Blue, her companion to Green, has received four starred reviews. She will be reading with us her new book, Why? Jonathan David Voss was a portrait artist and graphic designer before becoming a children's book creator. He is the author-illustrator of Brave and Enough for Two: A Hoot & Olive Story and the illustrator of Winnie: The True Story of the Bear Who Inspired Winnie-the-Pooh by Sally Walker. His newest book, Imagine That, continues the journey of beloved characters Hoot & Olive. He lives in Wake Forest, North Carolina with his family. In the Creativity Corner, we’ll have drop-in activities- open drawing. Read With Me's local art gallery is open every day with over 10 local artists' work for sale. First Friday, presented by the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, showcases the vibrant art and creative community in Downtown Raleigh on the first Friday of every month from 6 pm - 9 pm. The free public event features a variety of local art galleries and studios, museums, and exhibitors that stay open late and put on special events.
