What we're about

The Reading Softball Club is a co-ed, mixed-age team that trains in Reading and participates in fixtures and tournaments throughout the Thames Valley area throughout the year. Softball is a great way to socialize while exploring your competitive side. We’re always looking for new members, so whether you’ve never heard of softball or you’ve been playing for years, we hope you’ll join us!

Whats softball about?
Co-ed slowpitch softball is a recreational, social and enjoyable game that’s easy to learn and play, even for people who are not “athletes” or don’t have much experience of team sports – and the game offers particular opportunities for women.

It’s a lot like baseball in terms of the rules, but because the ball is pitched slowly to each batter (as the name implies!), it’s easy to hit the ball and succeed at the sport’s central skill. The fact that men and women play together in the same team and on an equal level gives the sport a social buzz, and most softball games are followed by sessions at the local pub!

When and where can I Play?
We start training from early spring on Wednesday evenings at Sol Joel Park, Earley, with league games Tuesday or Thursday's commencing early May. We also enter a number of weekend summer tournaments for those that are super keen.

We have 2 Ladies Taster sessions coming up, all sessions will be run by several experienced, friendly and welcoming Blue Sox members. For the guys, normal training will start in April, keep an eye for the events.

Ladies Taster Session

Sol Joel Park

Curious about softball? Then why not come along to one of our taster sessions! The fun and friendly sessions are a perfect chance for players who have never played Softball before. The taster session will start with an introduction, a briefing on the basic rules and skills of the game, followed by some fun practice drills. This progression will lead into a game and participants having an opportunity to play their first game of Softball! Players of all sporting abilities and Softball experience levels (Slow Pitch, Fast Pitch, Baseball, Rounders, etc) including complete Softball novices are welcome! What to bring: This session will be hosted outdoors. We recommend wearing clothing and footwear comfortable to run around in. We will provide the rest of the equipment, but you are welcome to bring your own. Important to know: While this is a ladies session, our club is co-ed so there will be male members helping with the coaching. Sorry, 18 and over only please. If you can't make this session, do not fear - we have other Taster Sessions and events for you to get involved. Hopefully we will see you there :) https://www.meetup.com/Reading-Softball-Meetup/events/
