IF SO, LISTEN UP! Your body is an amazing, deeply sensitive and intuitive tuning fork. Every emotion, every pain, every spark of joy, every physical sensation is a purposeful, beautiful expression of wisdom and inner knowing about who you are and what matters to you.
What if anxiety and depression are not problems, but in fact symptoms? What if the current one-size-fits-all mental health medication model merely masks these symptoms (not to mention adding new and dangerous side-effects) without actually considering the true cause?
This group offers an invitation to celebrate the sensitivity of our nervous systems, to be in community with others to deeply honor the wisdom of our bodies, and to consider that most everything we’ve been led to think of as symptoms of mental illness are actually urgent cries from our bodies to reclaim our inner ground.
This group is meant to help people who are thinking about, or in the process of, reducing or coming off psychiatric drugs. We also welcome those with past experiences of coming off or reducing psychiatric drugs. We respect the right of each person to decide for themselves whether or not their medications are helpful, and we welcome people interested in reducing some but not all of their meds.
This group is a space where people are safely encouraged to recover their capacity to feel, to learn how to sit in the discomfort of what arises when we truly sink into the fullness of our feelings, and to practice together to trust that our bodies do not need to be controlled, fixed or managed.
FORMAT + TOPICS:
Meet-up gatherings range in format from facilitated conversations, to experiential exercises, to 1 on 1 and small group process work.
Meet-up topics include enhancing mood stability and resiliency; emotional and accountability support for getting off psychotropic medication (nutritional changes, amino-acid supplements, emotional and lifestyle re-patterning, mindfulness techniques); collective grief rituals to mourn and move anger and sadness in community; opportunities to heal past wounds and trauma (informed by interpersonal neurobiology and somatic practices); developing an embodied, resonating self-witness to host intensity in ourselves and others with compassion.
WHO IS THIS GROUP FOR?
* Individuals who are considering, or in the process of tapering off psychotropic medications, or have previous experience with tapering or reducing meds.
* People who feel angry and disempowered by the mental health system, and who wish to reclaim their inner authority, dignity and self-compassion.
* Folks who want to learn tools for grounded resiliency, to sit together in the discomfort of feeling states like anger, fear, humiliation, sadness and grief.
* People who are craving companionship and community in the journey to deeply honor our full, authentic selves, to honor every feeling as sacred and wise.
FROM THE HOST:
Over the past 5+ years I've successfully tapered off 5 psychotropic drugs I've taken for the better part of 20 years, and I'm currently tapering off the final one. I'm ready to share my story and talk to others who are on a similar journey to reclaim their inner guidance and to consider critically whether psychotropic medications are helpful.
I believe that deeply feeling, TRULY AWAKE human beings--those who can sit in the fiery discomfort of sadness, anger and other pathologized emotions--are needed now more than ever to speak our radical truths and reclaim our feeling selves through deep, honoring embodiment.
I am deeply inspired by renegade thinkers and activists like Charles Eisenstein, Dr Kelly Brogan, Joanna Macy, Robert Whitaker, Laura Delano, Peter Breggin, and I am committed to providing a community space to speak our truths and support each other on the healing path back home to our authentic selves.
