Shasta Mine Trail - Whiskeytown - Optional lunch at Anthony's Mediterranean

  • Needs a location

  • Join us for a 3.5 loop on the Shasta Mine Trail at Whiskeytown where you'll get to enjoy a variety of vegetation and views including canyon live oaks, pine forest and views of Kanaka Peak, SouthFork Mountain, and Shasta Bally from certain parts of the trail.   You'll also get to catch some glimpses of Whiskeytown Cemetery, with its unusual grave markers as we make our way to the Mt. Shasta Mine area.  Once we reach the summit,  you'll get to see views of Whiskeytown Lake, the dam and the Trinity Mountains in the distance.  You can read more about this area in the Shasta Mine Loop Travel Guide.

Difficulty Level: Moderate Length: 3.5 miles loop trail,  Elevation: 540 feet elevation gain

Optional Lunch Afterwards:  Anthony's Mediterranean Cuisine.  Address: 2475 Eureka Way, Redding, CA 96001, Phone:  View Menu

Carpool:  8:30 a.m. at TOPS Market, 3685 Eureka Way, Redding, CA.  It is located on the corner of a Buenaventura and a Eureka Way.  We will carpool or caravan to the trailhead.

NOTE:  You will need a Park Pass or day pass to park at Whiskeytown or carpool with someone who has one.

Directions to the trailhead from the Travel Guide:  Starting at the Whiskeytown Visitor Center, drive south on Kennedy Memorial Drive towards Whiskeytown Dam. The road forks. Take the left fork which becomes Paige Bar Road. Do not take the right fork over the dam. The trailhead and parking lot are about one mile farther on the left, across from Peltier Valley Road.

RSVP GUIDELINES: If you RSVP "YES" for a hike and cannot attend, please remember  to update your RSVP to "NO" so we're not waiting around for you.
