Exploring Shakespeare – King Lear (2 play comparison – play 1 of 2)

This week we change it up. As it tuns out the Stratford Festival presentation of "King Lear" is still available! So, while it is, we'll watch it this week and then compare it with the S. F. Shakespeare Festival's version the week after. The contrast should be striking: male Lear & female Lear, large company vs small company, and most striking traditional indoor stage vs COVID-19 physical-distanced digitally-edited stage. There will be a lot to discuss. This week we'll focus on the play itself and Stratford's production. The next week we'll discuss the S.F. Shakespeare Festival's production and contrast the productions. { This event is cross-posted in the Adventures in History & Culture group. { There is a maximum of 12 attendees between the two groups so { everyone has a chance to participate in the discussion. { RSVP's close at 2:00 p.m. the day of the event. No prior experience with Shakespeare is required, all that's needed is the desire to experience his plays and enjoy discussing them. Add yourself to the Waitlist and I'll promote persons to the Going-list based on your history of participation, no-shows, and also to give newcomers a chance to participate. We will each watch the play individually prior to the Meetup. Agenda (not hard and fast): 7:00 Hello and Introductions 7:15 A brief round of everyone's overall impressions of the play, about 3 min per person 7:45 5-minute break 7:50 Discussion on the production of the play 8:20 Discussion of the content of the play 8:35 5-minute break 8:40 Continued discussion 9:00 End of meeting (we'll continue on if there's interest) I'll send out the Zoom link the afternoon prior to the event. Please ensure that your Meetup settings are set to receive messages and e-mails from this group. The play can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKm-1t_O9Vk&list [Available thru ???, try to catch it early in case it's removed from YouTube] Wikipedia has a summary and useful information on the play here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Lear The complete script and a lot of additional info can be read here: https://shakespeare.folger.edu/shakespeares-works/king-lear/ Note on the photo: The picture is entitled "Death of Cordelia" (c.1868) by H.C. Online Trivia @ Home (Zoom)

Online event

Please read this whole email, and try to familiarize yourself with the format beforehand. We are going to start 15 minutes earlier! I used to do bar trivia at least once a month, so this "Shelter-in-place" has me going crazy. I have been to various online trivia nights, and found this format the best. Things you will need: 1.) Zoom on your computer (preferred) or on your cellphone. 2.) Teams will be divided in Breakout Rooms via Zoom (no more than five players to a team), and then choose a "Team Captain". This "Team Captain" will register the team (on the 3 page when the quiz starts) at www.menti.com (code will be posted in the Zoom chat that night). They need to "share their screen" to the breakout room so everyone can see and that person will answer for the team. There was some great feedback from last week and we will see if we can make the music round sound a little better. I will be on the Zoom at 7:00pm, to help people setup that are confused, and I will try to email/post detailed instructions later. YOU WILL NEED A COMPUTER TO ZOOM AND BE TEAM CAPTAIN OR YOU CAN ONLY ZOOM IF YOU WILL BE ON YOUR PHONE. Please let me know if you have any questions, or concerns.

Cards Against Humanity Social @ Online Event via Zoom

Online event

Dark sense of humor? Not easily offended? This may be a good game for you... Join us for fun and laughs. CAH is a party game in which players complete fill-in-the-blank statements using words or phrases typically deemed as offensive, risqué or politically incorrect printed on playing cards. Rooms will have up to seven players, we will have multiple rooms and I will be around to teach the basics, but this game is similar to Apples to Apples, just raunchier. Donations and gratuities are greatly appreciated. A huge "THANK YOU" to the fabulous members that have given so far on my gofundme, venmo or paypal. I use these funds for online services and games for our events. I look forward to providing future events like Trivia, Backgammon Tourney, and Happy Hours! A few notes: * Two windows or two devices needed to play and zoom at the same time. The game board is best on the larger device to be able to read and move cards around. * Connecting to Zoom works best if you have installed the updated ZOOM Cloud meeting app by zoom.us, logged in to your Zoom account and have closed other non-essential windows. * There is an Online Event LINK near the date and time on the event page. Click on the link and then click join. This will also be messaged to you if you have messaging turned on. * Please make sure conversations are all-inclusive, if you start a topic that seems like not everyone is in to, you can invite people to a discussion in a breakout room. * Use the mute/unmute feature to avoid background noise. * Never click on any links posted by members unless you are 100% sure of the source, report inappropriate comments or private messages. * Please be kind, courteous and accepting of others beliefs. This event is FREE, but if you have a great time, gratuities and contributions to the host are greatly appreciated! Feel free to Venmo me or add to my Meetup GoFundme 'fun'ds : https://www.gofundme.com/f/social-meetup-fund?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1 Want to get coupon codes for online shopping?
