What we're about

This group is open to anyone from any background who is interested in growth and development in personal relationships. Many of the principles discussed in the books are applicable generally. Some books focus on general skill development, while others focus on specific types of relationships. One of the challenges of the readings is to apply their ideas to situations outside of the relationships or spiritual traditions discussed by the authors, for example, to parenting when the topic is dating or to non-heteronormative relationships when the topic is marriage.

This group meets at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Dallas 4015 Normandy Ave. in Highland Park at 6:30 p.m. bimonthly on the 2nd Thursday and 4th Tuesday. This ensures that readers can work around their schedules. Most people will be able to meet on a Tuesday OR a Thursday, though everyone is welcome to both. Books will be repeated later. If offered on a Tuesday first, it will be offered on Thursday later to accommodate all readers. The group facilitator is Professor Emeritus with a 3-decade long history of teaching Rhetoric and Communication.

This is not a therapy group. Therefore, meeting discussion will remain objective. We deal with the contents of books by discussing thoughts, hypotheticals, and imaginary characters.
Personal stories are prohibited in the meeting. If you are dealing with a painful relationship issue, please see a licensed therapist.

If you have not been "officially" accepted into the group, please alert the facilitator and plan to attend regardless. Meetup has changed their pricing structure to only allow 50 members. We do have a wait list. As soon as people who are clearly not participating are removed from the regular list, you can be admitted as a regular member. In the meantime, please feel free to participate anyway.
