Palisades to Piermont Fall Foliage Hike

This is a great moderate hike just under 5 miles. We will take the 11:22am USACoaches/Rockland Coaches bus to Palisades, NY. Please buy a one-way ticket beforehand. We can buy our return from Piermont on the bus on the way back. We will depart from Port Authority Bus Terminal, Gate 220. Try to get to the gate with your ticket around 11am. Leave ample time as Port Authority can be a confused place. If you RSVP I will be on the look out for you. I will also send you my cell phone number just prior the trip. We should get into Piermont around 3-3:30pm. There are buses back into New York City at 3:47pm, 4:47pm, 5:47pm and 6:47pm. People can leave whenever they want or we can decide as a group which bus to take back. I love this hike because there are some great views of the Hudson, the potential to explore some historic sites and old ruins and the town of Piermont is a fun place to end the hike and get a beer or something hot to drink. We will start our hike in the northern end of Palisades Park in New Jersey and hike into New York, through Tallman Mountain State Park and into Piermont. Note: Bring at least one liter of water and some snacks. A rain jacket or some type of windbreaker is really important as it can get windy along the Hudson. Light hiking shoes are also recommended. Having some cash in small bills can also be helpful. IMPORTANT: Daylight Savings Time Ends, so we will be falling back on Sunday, change your clocks to one-hour back Saturday night. In addition to getting something to eat, if the group is up for it we could also explore Piermont on foot as there are some interesting local sites (Rockland Cemetery, Mt. Nebo/Old Nike missile site, old Erie Railroad walking path). This hike isn’t very strenuous and can be made easier if the group so desires. If you haven’t done any fall hiking this season, now is the time to do it! Most of the leaves should still be on the trees.
