Marathon Madness!

Are you, or anyone you know, running the NYC Marathon this year? ECPAT-USA, an organization that focuses on combating domestic minor sex trafficking and exploitation, is organizing a team of runners who are already registered to run this year's marathon. All funds raised go to supporting the new youth program, which trains youth on to be leaders in the fight against trafficking, educates teachers on how to recognize the signs that a student might be a victim, and helps youth prevent sex trafficking in their communities.
Under US law, anyone under 18 who is in prostitution is a victim of sex trafficking. Victims can be from any background, but frequently they have been through the foster care system, have a history of being abused and neglected, or might be runaway or homeless youth. They are easy targets for traffickers or pimps to push and force into prostitution. The FBI identified 168 child victims during an operation conducted earlier this year, and this is sadly a very real issue in the US. Studies estimate about 4,000 children in New York City alone are being forced into prostitution, and at least 100,000 children in the US are victims of trafficking.
For more information about running with us, or to get information to share with friends, please contact Sarah Porter at
Thanks, and please help spread the word! And don't forget the happy hour on Wednesday :)
