RUGOV Meeting

Due to forecast of inclement weather, the RUGOV meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 13th has been moved to Thursday, February 20th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and hope to see you at the meeting on the 20th.

Meeting Topic: Families and More

5:30 - 6:00 Networking- Food and drink served

6:00 - 6:15 Introduction

6:15 - 6:30 Good/Bad/Ugly Presentation - Brent Jones, DMWPV

An open discussion of the what is working and what is not working using Revit.

6:30 - 7:15 Overview of Revit Families - Michael S. Schwartz, Production Technician, Obenchain, Linkous, Daniels & Sowick, Inc., Consulting Engineers

This will be an introduction and overview of Revit family creation, from understanding the basics of the family editor and its modeling tools all the way to adding parameters, formulas, and nested families to create customized complex families.  I will discuss how to get started by selecting the correct family template as well as the correct template for getting the job done, and what to do when then obvious choice isn't available as a selection.  I will show you how to use reference planes to constrain geometry within your family, how to control that geometry with parameters (just like the content inside Revit), and how to test your progress along the way to make sure it is working right.  I'll show you how to control the visibility of certain elements in different types of views and at differing levels of detail so that your family looks the way you want it to look in your views.  I will then show you how to insert families into families (nesting), which will allow you to break down a complex modeling task into smaller pieces.  Pulling it all together, I will show you what is possible when you combine all of these techniques to create a fully parametric family with nested components.

I really liked Michaels presentation on family developments. I thought alot of people had advanced questions related to families and good/needed information was shared. Another presentation on families and their advanced settings like this would be great.
