Event Rating: Level 3 (Difficult)

Recommended for members who have completed one or more Level 2 hikes

Distance: 8.5 Miles
Time Duration: ~4 Hours
Blaze Orange: not required

This hike will take us along trails in the southern section of the Arcadia WMA, located south of Route 165.

The hike is about 8.5 miles long, and should take around 4 hours. Most of the walk is on single-track woodland trails typical of Arcadia. There are some small hills, and the trails will be wet in spots and often rocky.

This a point to point hike, which will require car spotting. We will meet at the canoe launch on Rt 165 at 8:30 AM, and do a short carpool to the start location. We will be hiking the yellow blazed Arcadia trail, and part of the white blazed Mt. Tom trail. This hike may be shortened to 7.5 miles if we have substantial rain Friday night, or conditions on Saturday dictate it.

With the rocky trails and stream crossings, a pair of hiking boots is strongly suggested. As always bring sufficient water and snacks along for the hike. With the expected weather, you should bring two liters of water. Also hydrate well before the hike. Also being bug repellent, as bugs have been a major issue on many recent hikes.

Directions

From Providence: Take I-95 south to exit 5A, (Rt. 102 south). At the merge of Rt. 102 and Rt. 3, take Rt. 3 south (go straight through traffic lights). Continue on Rt. 3 south for another mile to the next light (a flashing light) at the intersection of Rt. 3 and Rt. 165. Turn right at the flashing light onto Rt. 165 west. Take Rt. 165 for ~3 1/2 miles, going past the large brown sign for the Arcadia Midway on your right. The canoe launch will be on your left immediately after crossing the Wood River.
