Breakheart Trail is hike #17 in Ken Weber's "Weekend Walks in Rhode Island". It is located in the Arcadia WMA, in the towns of West Greenwich and Exeter,RI. This hike takes us half way around Breakheart Pond, and then through some dense woodlands.

The terrain is slightly hilly in spots, but is not difficult. With the rocky trails and likely wet areas, a pair of hiking boots is strongly suggested. Come prepared with bug spray for protection from ticks and other insects. As always bring sufficient water and snacks along for a 3 hour hike.

Directions (please pay close attention to them)

From Providence: Take I-95 south to exit 5A, (Rt. 102 south). At the merge of Rt. 102 and Rt. 3, take Rt. 3 south. Continue on Rt. 3 south for another mile to the next light (a flashing light) at the intersection of Rt. 3 and Rt. 165. Turn right at the flashing light onto Rt. 165 west. Take Rt. 165 for ~3 miles, and watch for the white West Exeter Baptist Church on the corner of Frosty Hollow Road, on your right. Take Frosty Hollow Road for ~1 ½ miles until it ends at a “T” intersection. Turn right, and follow the dirt road until it brings you to Breakheart Pond.
