Weetamoo Woods is owned by the town of Tiverton and the adjoining Pardon Gray Preserve is owned by the Tiverton Land Trust. Together they encompass over 680 acres. This hike will offer varied terrain and historic points of interest. The Weetamoo property is named for an Indian sachem from the Pocasset Tribe during the time of King Philip's War. Pardon Gray was an officer in the Revolutionary War, he is buried in a small historic cemetery on the property. We will wander on old lanes and thriving forests. There is an old sawmill site and old stone bridges as well. There are some imposing rock outcroppings that we can climb for the views. There are many muddy areas on this hike. I strongly suggest sturdy boots, no sneakers.
Directions for the Providence area: Take Route 195 East into Fall River. Take Exit 8A to Mass 24 South into RI. Take the Fish Road Exit in Tiverton and take a left at the end of the exit onto Fish Rd. Follow Fish Rd 1.4 Miles to Bulgarmarsh Rd. Turn Right onto Bulgarmarsh Rd (RI 177) and follow for 1.0 Mile. Turn Left onto Main Rd (RI 77 South) and follow for 2.3 miles to the Tiverton Recrecation Area on the Left. There are two parking lots (North and South Lots) we will meet in the North lot.
