Rhythm and Seoul is a dance studio that focuses on K-pop and general Hip-Hop dance styles. There are both choreography workshops and more accessible cardio group fitness classes that will tackle these dance styles. If you have any interest in Hip-Hop, K-pop, dancing to amazing music and/or exercising, this is where you belong!
The mission of Rhythm and Seoul is to help dancers engage in the unfamiliar and familiar simultaneously. Hip-Hop speaks to the souls of people around the world and thus it is created and shared in various languages. At R&S, we will dance to music from around the world and in the process, bring ourselves closer to other cultures.
K-pop, or Korean pop, is a great example of how huge hip hop has become in other countries. Here is a short description of what Korean pop is from Wikipedia:
"K-pop is a music genre originating in South Korea that is characterized by a wide variety of audiovisual elements. Although it includes all genres of "popular music" within South Korea, the term is often used in a narrower sense to describe a modern form of South Korean pop music drawing on a range of Western styles and genres, such as Western pop music, rock, jazz, hip-hop, R&B, reggae, electronica, techno, nu metal, folk, country and classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots."
Note how diverse K-pop is, there is something for everyone and I will definitely draw on that as we dance together. In this meetup, I will first start off with opportunities to learn the "point" dance of various K-pop songs by various artists, usually a verse and chorus. In the future, with your interest in mind, I would love to offer opportunities to learn entire songs and their associated formations and performance elements. To dream even bigger, we could record our performance on video! Similarly, with hip hop classes, we will learn short choreography but there are the same growth opportunities with my original choreography.
Please feel free to engage with me on the meetup page by commenting or messaging me personally to suggest any improvements I can make or things you would like to see happen with the group. Hope to see you at a class in the future!
