What we're about

The Richmond Dive Club, a non-profit (501c7) scuba diving club, has been serving the Richmond scuba diving community since 1999. Richmond Dive Club members are individuals of all ages and experience levels with one thing in common: we all share a love of the ocean and its exploration.

Among our 100-plus members, (some active, some not so active) you’ll find divers who:

have traveled all over the globe and dove every ocean, lake, river, sea, underwater cave
have seen the most inspiring sites and incredible ocean denizens
have extensive knowledge in underwater photography, advanced scuba diving technologies, wreck history and much more
love to share their knowledge and experience
are always looking for more dive partners
have yet to make that first giant stride - and want to know more about our sport and why it inspires the passion it does.

Local diving with the Richmond Dive Club includes day and weekend boat dives to the best wrecks off the North Carolina Coast, as well as quarry diving at Lake Phoenix, which is a mere 50 minute drive from South Richmond. Upon request, we can organize trips to further destinations, including the Caribbean and places further afield. We work with all the local dive shops to promote their trips and encourage all to continue their education.

We also promote our own Surface Intervals, which have included trips to the Baltimore aquarium, movies, the Mariners Museum in Newport News and the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro.

Our monthly meetings, attended by 25-35 members, begins with socializing (what else?) where you can meet fellow divers and those who might just want to take up the sport. The business meeting is kept to a minimum, and includes a dive committee reports, dive reports from members, and an introduction of visitors, all interspersed with late arrivals and muted dinner orders. These activities are followed by will be a presentation by a well known speaker on a scuba-related topic. Past speakers include Pete Nawrocky, John Chatterton, Bernie Chowdhury, Gary Gentile, as well as many other divers, photographers, and explorers from around the world. Presentations often include films, mixed media or slides, and cover dive topics such as travel, safety, marine life, equipment and underwater adventure.

Newly certified, new diver in the area, or looking for a dive buddy? You are SO VERY WELCOME to attend our next meeting and find out more about us. Thanks for coming by our site!
