During last Sunday's meetup at Pt. Isabel, I mentioned that we (Richmond local) did the Ferry Loop part of the Bay Trail a couple years ago and some newer members showed interest in doing it again. I'm all for it. Ferry Point is one of my favorite things to have discovered about Richmond, especially because ferries were the only way to get across the water to SF a hundred years ago. The old rusty tracks and machinery are still there and were used to transport passengers, supplies, train cars, and bricks from the local brickyard, esp. after the 1906 quake. There are still one or two kilns in Brickyard Cove too, among all the condos.
Let's meet in front of the Plunge in Pt. Richmond at 10:30 a.m. and walk the Ferry Point Loop, finishing at the 'Up and Under' Pub and Grill for lunch and a pint. The total distance is ~3.5 miles and is mostly flat, though there is some uphill traversing out of Brickyard Cove and back round to 'downtown' Pt. Richmond. Taking the entire loop w/o including all of Shipyard 3 takes a couple of hours. Great views of the water on the way to Ferry Point. See link to Ferry Point Loop on the Bay Trail maps site at:
